Semi Permanent Make Up

Semi-permanent make-up also known as cosmetic tattooing, cosmetic artistry or even eyebrow tattooing is an advanced treatment only offered by highly qualified Semi permanent make-up artists like myself. Trained by Nouveau Contour, which is brought to and created by Karen Betts the UK and Europe’s leading cosmetic artist and creator of the amazing pigment KB PRO, I have been trained and assessed to be able to offer you a bespoke eyebrow, eyeliner or lip treatment of the highest quality.

The treatment is similar to that of a regular tattoo, whereby it involves implanting small amounts of coloured pigments into the first layer of the skin with an ultra-fine needle to produce the appearance of make-up. The types of semi-permanent make-up available are eyebrows, eyeliner (top, bottom or both), eyelash enhancement, Lip liner, lip blush, full lip colour and even a beauty mark.

Prior to any semi-permanent make-up treatment, a thorough consultation will take place. During this time I will explain exactly what the procedure involves, answer any questions, discuss the desired look, what you should expect from the end result, and can even create your own bespoke colour by blending pigments. I will always ensure you are 100% happy and confident with what we are going to do before we start.

Before the treatment I will use an anesthetic cream to numb the area to help keep any discomfort minimal. Each semi-permanent make-up treatment requires a minimum of two visits, a touch up treatment will be required 4-6 weeks after your original appointment to perfect any areas and replace any pigment on specific areas that may have faded during the healing process. Your make-up will appear darker than expected at first, this is completely normal and fades after the first few days, gradually lightening over the next week to ten days.

You can then throw your brow palette, lip liner and eyeliner away! Your semi-permanent make-up shouldn’t need a retouch for at least a year.

Semi-permanent make-up treatments start from £275 for the initial treatment and retouches from £75. To book an appointment or a free consulation please visit my contact me page.

Semi-permanent make-up also known as cosmetic tattooing, cosmetic artistry, micropigmentation or even eyebrow tattooing is an advanced treatment only offered by highly qualified Semi permanent make-up artists like myself. The procedure is similar to that of a tattoo, whereby colour is implanted into the skin using a hand held device. However pigment is used not ink, which means the colour will gradually fade out of the skin within 1-3 years (yearly top ups will ensure the pigment stays) the pigment is only implanted beneath the first layer of the skin and the needle used is very small therefore creating the look of make up but with semi permanent results.

I trained with Nouveau Contour the UK’s leading semi permanent cosmetics training and product specialists at their academy in Milton Keynes.

The length of the treatment lasting does depend on the individual, their skin and the care taken of the area afterwards, lifestyle factors such as sun exposure can have an effect on longevity of the pigment in the skin. Once yearly appointments to have the colour retouched are recommended.

Again this depends on the individual, I will numb the area prior to the treatment to keep any discomfort minimal and make sure you are confident and comfortable before we start. Some clients might feel a small scratching sensation or a little discomfort whereas others don’t really feel anything at all. The tattooing itself, is relatively quick, so should you feel anything it’s not for a prolonged period of time..I promise you that the results are worth it!

I’d recommend you allow 2-2.5 hours for your initial appointment, this will leave us plenty of time to numb the area, discuss the colour and look you are wanting to achieve and complete the consulation forms. It also leaves lots of time for any questions you may have before during or after. The second appointment quicker, usually around an hour to an hour and a half.

After your appointment you should keep the tattooed area out of direct sunlight for four days whilst your skin is healing. It is also important to keep the area clean and dry, I will provide you with a cream to apply to the area. During the first week a scab may appear and will fall away naturally, it is very important to the final result of the treatment that you do not pick the scab or pull anything away from the skin as prematurely removing the healing skin may have an effect on the pigment in that area. The colour will also be a lot darker or bolder than what would have been chosen this is because the colour with fade by up to 50% during the healing process so do not worry if the colour is darker than what you were wanting, this is normal and it will fade quickly over the next 7-14 days.

Unfortunately yes, I will discuss this with you personally and enquire if you have any medical conditions or if you are on any types of medication before any treatments take place. Some medical conditions are fine to proceed and some so long as you get a medical consent form, I will let you know if this is necessary.

SPMU treatments are not suitable for those undergoing treatment for cancer, have recently had botox or fillers in the area they are wanting tattoed, pregnant or during the nursing period, have type 2 diabetes (may be with medical consent), tendency to scar badly, or have had a reaction to the pigment.

An allergy test is required before the treatment for both the pigment and the anesthetic.

If you have any queries surrounding suitability for the treatment, please get in touch. For your safety it is paramount am I informed of any medical decisions so I can advise accordingly.

It is not recommended to have a brow treatment after having Botox injected into the brow area, or a lip tattoo whilst there is filler in the lips. This is to ensure that when the Botox and Filler wears off your Semi Permanent Make Up treatment remains symmetrical.

However it is fine to have Botox and Fillers once your Semi Permanent Make up treatment is healed.

If you regularly remove hair from the area, please make sure this is done a minimum of 7 days before the treatment. For the best results your lips need to be in good condition for the appointment, please ensure you look after them in the lead up to your appointment.

If you suffer with cold sores, it is extremely likely that tattooing the area will disturb the virus and cause an outbreak. I recommend you visit your doctor prior to your appointment to get prescribed a course of Zorvarix to help prevent this.

Finally it is not recommended to have a SPMU lip treatment if you have lip fillers, it is fine to have this done though once your lip tattoo has healed.

Please don’t tint your eyebrows in the two weeks prior to your appointment, it is important during the pigment choosing process I can see your natural brow colour, this will give you the most natural looking result once your eyebrows have healed.

If you regularly tweeze, thread or wax your brows please do this 7 days before your brow treatment. If you think you will want to change the shape of your brows it would be good to let more of the natural hairs grow through for your appointment.

It is not suitable to perform the treatment whilst wearing contacts, if  you wear contact lenses these need to be removed for the appointment and not reapplied for 24 hours, so please bring your glasses along for the appointment.

Please arrive eye make up free for the appointment, and if you wear individual eyelash extensions or strip lashes please remove these 7 days before your appointment. They also shouldn’t be reapplied until the area has healed, at least two weeks after your second appointment.

If your regularly tint, perm or lift your lashes please also ensure this is done a minimum of 7 days before your eyelash enhancement or eyeliner treatment. As you cannot wear make up on the area during the healing process, I recommend considering a lash lift prior to your SPMU appointment.

After the treatment has healed you should only use a brand new mascara on your lashes for hygiene reasons, please ensure you have a spare so are not tempted to use an old one!

Finally, I am not able to perform the treatment if you are suffering from a eye infection. Please let me know as soon as possible if you think you are in the lead up to your appointment.
